Quick Fit versus Programming Hearing Aid Fittings: Acoustic and Perceptual Differences
AQ is a 56-year-old man seeking an audiologist to assess his hearing sensitivity. AQ, a social worker, reported a gradual decline over the past few years in his ability to communicate, especially in environments with competing background noise as well as when using the telephone. He further reported a history of noise exposure from previously serving in the military, regular firearm use, the occasional use of power tools, and daily use of earbuds while listening to streamed music. The patient reported that previous audiologic testing performed 30 years prior while he served in the military revealed hearing sensitivity to be within normal limits. All other audiologic, medical, and family history was unremarkable.
